Common/Wealth
Common/Wealth is a political theatre company based in Bradford and Cardiff. They make radical, experimental, site-specific theatre that addresses the social injustices and urgent concerns of our times, in partnership with the people most affected by inequity. Rooted in socialist politics, working-class backgrounds and a radical ambition to shift things, they often co-create performances with local people, presenting them in the heart of communities: a residential house, a boxing gym, or a car park. Common/Wealth’s most recent work includes Demand the Impossible, exploring police infiltration and injustice within activist movements.
Rhiannon White is co-founder and co-director of Common/Wealth. Rhiannon has also worked with NTW, National Theatre, Chapter, BAC, Southbank Centre and Circus 2 Palestine. She is a Clore Fellow, a recipient of a Creative Wales Award, and she was also a panel member on the Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society chaired by Julia Unwin. Rhiannon is co-author of Do It Yourself: Making Political Theatre.
Bianca Ali is an activist, actress, spoken word artist, writer and aspiring theatre director from Cardiff. Her credits include Assistant Director for National Theatre Wales on Circle of Fifths and Cost of Living; co-writing and performing The Struggle is Real on the Ladies of Rage’s EP Harddwch dy; performing with Common/Wealth at The Posh Club; and facilitating Common/Wealth programmes, including Act Your Age. Bianca was the lead figure of the Black Lives Matter Movement in Cardiff, advocating for an anti-racist Wales.
